SONG OF THE WEEK - LA TOALLA, TITO RODRIGUEZ

This week's selection is one of my personal favourites, so much so I choreographed one of my student performance teams to this wonderful song, with the man responsible being one of all-time great soneros of Latin music.

One of a glittering array of Puerto Rican musical legends, Tito Rodriguez, born Pablo Rodriguez Lozada, was known by many also as the "El Inolvidable" (The Unforgettable One) and you see why by amount of classic albums and songs that he released. He was a sonero, percussionist, composer, record producer and band-leader. His talent and versatility was equalled by very few.

I give you, with much fondness... TITO RODRIGUEZ with "LA TOALLA"! :D

Song of the Week - Flora, Maximo Rodriguez

Happy Monday everyone! To get you in the mood for the rest of the week, here is an awesome track from the legendary Panamanian artist Maximo Rodriguez. Maximo formed his band Estrellas Panameñas in 1963, they were extremely popular in 60s and 70s both in Panama and in New York. Coming from a very small country Maximo and his band nevertheless left a significant mark on the Salsa and Mambo genre and we are still loving his works today.

We give you one of his most famous songs - the romantic "Flora"!!

SONG OF THE WEEK - OYE MEN, NORO MORALES

This week we've chosen a beautiful, playful and flowing piano piece. This soulful instrumental song is popular with Salsa dancers everywhere as it crosses cultural and language barriers, with many choreographies performed to this song.

It is brought to us by the much beloved Noro Morales, who was very popular in the 40's & 50's and considered by many to be the Latin-American Duke Ellington of his time.

This particular song was actually written in the 60's when he had returned to Puerto Rico after living in New York for over 2 decades. We give you the wonderful... NORO MORALES with "OYE MEN"! :)

SONG OF THE WEEK - TOBY'S MAMBO, TITO RODRIGUEZ JR

For my choice this week, I've chosen another favourite salsa song. One which was played a lot over a decade ago, but not as much as now which is a shame, as it's an all-time classic by one of the most renowned musicians of Latin and Salsa music and one of my personal favourites.

I give you, with much adoration... TITO RODRIGUEZ JR. with "TOBY'S MAMBO"! :)
